Five Little Peppers All Grown Up--still too much conversation and an annoying excessive amount of love for Polly, but a good story overall. 4/5

These books are cute, but so sentimental and loaded with dialogue that make events hard to follow at times.

I'm a little disappointed so far that this isn't being more faithful to the book in terms of scenes/events. Every single part is twisted slightly. For example, Jim's fantastic reprimand of Huck's pranks, calling them trash and directly correlating it to Huck's overall behavior, is completely missing and replaced with a much milder reaction. I don't know, it's got a weird feel since I know the original so well.

This book is diving into strange territory. And the main character just said a sentence that I could not believe was published. I hope the murder mystery part is better than this trainwreck so far...

Only 8 pages in and there are so many clothes-color-descriptions...

140 pages in--this book already is suffering from massive bloat; there are at least 3 chapters so far that are completely irrelevant and I just read 2 pages describing everything Eragon did in a day. I hope things get more interesting considering how much is still left...

I am surprised that the author has 2 characters who live in New York City and gives no mention of 9/11, not even a couple of sentences.

I had forgotten how Kowal writes like she's lecturing her audience. It's almost unbearable to read, to be honest, but the plot is decently interesting.

I get that this is supposed to be addressed to her sister, but the second person/"you" is slowly killing me. I'm finding it difficult to get immersed in the book when every other sentence seems to be directly addressed to me (even though I know it's the sister).

Chess notation is not "Queen 4, Bishop 4," Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Don't call it chess notation if you're not going to use the official "d4, c4" terminology.

The murder just happened and I think I already know who did it and how, but I guess not every Christie novel can be complicated and tricky.

Mat is written much better in this one, but there are still some Sanderson-isms in here that just are so jarring. Like Mat using the term "technology." And the directness of Sanderson's writing can be distracting as well, like when he states completely unnecessarily the result of an action rather than allowing us to infer it.

The author/writing style change is more jarring than I remember it being. Most of the differences are minor, but Mat is extremely out of character.

Boy, I love it when authors throw in modern references in a book where nothing is real or modern. Having a character in this fantasy world say "Let's Scooby-Doo it" makes absolutely no sense.

I know that I ended up liking Egwene by the end of the series, but I'm finding her very annoying on reread. I despise smug, "I know best" protagonists.

What even is this book...? Is there a point to it? I would hardly call this book a mystery, which is how it's labeled. Maybe a mystery in terms of why it was written...

I'm not really sure if I *like* this book, but there are a LOT of fantastic quotes.

So. Many. Similes.

DNF. McKinley has always been a long-winded narrator, but this narrator is frustratingly wordy and random.

Thinking of DNF'ing at about 50%. Simply not enjoyable.

Part I is basically "what happened in Attolia during Thick as Thieves." I'm a little worried about how this will end, but I trust Megan Whalen Turner.
