An interesting time travel story so far, but it's spending too much time on the group in the future dealing with a seemingly unrelated epidemic and the protagonist in the past, who has very little agency in what's happening. Well written, so I'm still hoping it improves...

It's very difficult to jump from one fantasy series to another. Too many weird person and place names, magic systems, political systems, etc. It all gets mixed up and makes the beginning of a new series slow going. From now on, when I leave a fantasy series, I'm going to a different genre for at least one book as a "palate cleanser."
