But man, the maing heroine is sorta annoying, the friend tells her "so you choose the guy!", but she actually didnt, everyone else did the choosing for her, she just went with the flow. Plus, they JUST started dating and are already talking about forever? I mean, what???

knowing the tragic and traumatic past of the heroine, he still acts like a predator towards her, claims her as property, KNOWING she was a slave for other people...????
i mean, i get the idea of monogamy, but acting like a predator, slave owner, whatever is way out of line.

I'm in the middle (sorta) of the book, and you know WHAT would have been amazing? that Lainie was a WOC and not the pale paaaale woman she is. I have read like 10 times how PALE she is. Ok we get it, you like your people super white, transparent white. But you know what? instead of missing an audition, it would have been a hundred times MORE interesting dealing with racial issues in theater and movies...
