I can kind of see what inspired Tolkien and Lewis, but this book is WEIRD.

I wish authors would research basic confinement of the Regency period before writing new mothers into their novels. Lady Clavering would have traveled to London before the birth of her baby rather than immediately after. 🙄

I'm disappointed that Peter Jackson made Elrond dark-haired.

Lol. Get him, Felix!

Yikes! It doesn't seem like this author read the original very closely. She has Mrs. Woodhouse still alive at a time when Jane Austen does not. 😬

This is a difficult read--I can't read much at a time.

What did I just read?!? "The Education of Betty" is awful! Stephen Douglas is creepier than Colonel Brandon, and that's saying a lot.

I thought the Disney movie was bad, having Snow-White marry at fourteen--but it turns out she's only SEVEN in the original fairytale! 😬

All I can say is, I very much hope that one of the future books in this series is about Charity, because I love her dearly.

"When I viewed getting my life together as a way for trying to atone for the sin of falling apart, I stayed stuck in a shame-fueled cycle of performance, perfectionism, and failure."

I can already tell I'm going to love this book!

Bathsheba Everdene is possibly the most frustrating character I've ever read. She's similar to Cynthia Kirkpatrick but without the charm, and without the story being from a loving step-sister's point of view.

Of all the names to modernize, Elizabeth puzzles me. I get changing Kitty to Kat, Georgiana to Gianna, and George to Jeff; but why change Elizabeth to Elsie and leave Caroline as Caroline?

Could a book drag any more than this? It would be so interesting if it stuck to the inhabitants of Bleak House, but it meanders around England so much that I am as weary of it as Lady Dedlock is of life.

This is my first time reading a Dickens novel (A Christmas Carol doesn't count), and I think I might like his style.
