DNF at 65%. I felt no connection to the characters & honestly, the back and forth of the perspectives was too much. I struggled to follow what was happening.

I read this almost 20 years ago, it’s been great to visit it again. Sarah is my spirit animal 🤣

DNF at 38%. The characters were driving me crazy with their deplorable choices & with a very predictable ending looming, it did not feel worth my time to finish.

Heartbreaking but one of the best examples of a strong voice in fiction I’ve ever read.

It pains me to cut ties with this book, but what I don’t understand is how a rattling narrative of a girl’s life, with the tone of an 8th grade ENG assignment, is so beloved.

As a historic doc it may hold some value, you get a view of what growing up in Brooklyn in the early 1900s was like. Beyond that, no dice. Simplistic writing style. Flat characters.
