Well-researched, backed by Bannos' intuition and expertise, this book is a discreet account of a sensationalry, which restitutes dignity and meaning to Maier's life and works, by close reading it, and questioning the amateurish and profit-driven exploitation that followed the discovery. If the first chapter is slow with early biographical details and names, eventually the narrative takes off, instructs, and inspires.
