Fun and cute! The Oh No Oh No factor is getting a bit strong, but those are the stakes!

This chapter included a basic history of the #NoDAPL protests and the Standing Rock camps. Really thinking about how it was a practice grounds for cops with inhuman tactics that keep popping up during the uprisings this summer. And of course for the future.

Actually at 10% now. I restarted today because I paused reading this book for a few months. I was on a no reading or reading fiction break--unintentionally.

Yes yes I've already read these individually, but I bought this collected edition bc I couldn't handle the idea of not having it in my physical book collection. And now I'm reading it again bc I don't have the attention span to read anything new. Which is, I think, obvious considering my lack of recent reads.

Finished, but I want to take down this quote from "Robert Greenman and the Mermaid," "he adored Carol as only such a man could, with a love built on a list of reasons and proofs of her goodness."

Since operating and providing for prisons is such a large industry, and since prisoners are used as exploitable labor, prison populations will never contract and decriminalizating policies will never be widely adopted.

Reformers in the later part of the 20th century wanted women's prisons to be equally as oppressive as men's, rather than making both less oppressive, in service of equality. 🤦‍♀️

"Are prisons racist institutions? Is racism so deeply entrenched in the institution of the prison that it is not possible to eliminate one without eliminating the other?"
Honestly, I think that it is possible--in the US. Racism so so deep in every institution, but people are genuinely rethinking prisons in a way that they may not actually be thinking about racism. But you know I don't know.

There's a flippant accusation that the director of the school might have "a hidden room devoted to nazi memorabilia" in chapter 9. But listen, the character's last name is Mandel, which was an anglicized Mandelbaum. It's beyond unbelievable to me, honestly.

Why is the sardonic, truth-telling dumbass always the main character when there are more interesting people around him? "Only I know the truth of the world," shut up! No you don't!

I had to switch from the ebook version to the kindle version to do updates unfortunately. But this is so far a really valuable way to reframe traditional ideas.
