This is taking me much longer to read not because it’s a drag, but because it’s actually hard to read at times. I knew in general terms the atrocities outlined in this book, but to read the primary & secondary sources included is heartbreaking. Also, John Brown was a real badass 🤘

While the topic of this book is extremely important—at several times, I found myself angry at the injustices detailed in this book—I just…found it repetitive and not organized very well. The individuals’ stories included within this book are important, and I would’ve liked to have seen them not spliced up between chapters as they were.

The tea is spicy 🌶️
