A masterpiece! I am relishing every word of this brilliantly written novel. It’s the structure, the rhythm, the imagery, the timing, the heart wrenching emotion of every single syllable. Not even halfway there, and I am wrecked!

Trying desperately to get through this one. So far, I find it unrelatable and unremarkable. I’d describe it as ostentatious and bombastic with no real meaning thus far. Waiting for something, anything, to happen that matters.

So. Many. Cabbages. This novel has been difficult to get through. The writing itself is good; unfortunately nothing is happening in the plot. For a small book, it is taking me much longer. Still waiting for something “so big” to happen.

This novel is intense yet subtle—the perfect combination. The control this narrator has over his audience…so similar to the way he controls his lord’s manor. And it is only fitting that he should demonstate only top tier vocabulary and syntax. I’m in literary paradise 🤓

This novel has something for everyone: family dynamics, mental health, religion, growing up, love, loss, and even sports! The character motivation and deep dive into why people make the decisions they do has been very emotional and eye opening for me. Right now, this book is sitting on a 5 star review from me. Looking forward to seeing how it ends.

This novel is stylistically pretty terrible. But I started it, so now now I have to finish.
My biggest question so far is why doesn’t she just leave? The behaviors and motivations of these characters makes no sense so far.

Smart. Funny. Full of common sense and intelligence. One of the most satisfying reads of the year. (Standing and applauding)

At the high school where I teach, this book was recently forced off the shelf by a group of parents. The librarian hid it in a back room. Of course I HAD to read it! And I can acknowledge their concerns. But I also know that the characters in this book and the situations they are experiencing are extremely relatable. This book could possibly be a lifesaver.

Only on page 90, but my brain is so excited. So far, this book is highly intelligent, appropriately literary, and stimulatingly (is that even a word) cultural.
I accidentally came across a tik tok video of Mayim Bialik, who I consider super smart and cool, and she mentioned her top 3 books. I can’t for the life of me remember the other two, but I bought this one right away. What a lucky circumstance:)

Annoyingly redundant so far…hoping the 2nd half has more to offer. Surface-level characters added to a bit of Vietnam war research. At this point, I’ve got to power through!
