I’m a fan of this author from way back, so no surprise I’m captivated by her writing style as she turns her absolute love of food into good fiction here. BON appetit!

Finally getting back into this after the upheaval of the move. As in life, the story has become a little more bittersweet as the elder members of the cast begin to pass on, but also more interesting, as some of their long-held secrets are revealed.

Read this for a long ago Science Fiction Lit class. It really is a good read and I'm enjoying revisiting it with all I've learned in the 30 years since the first go-round. For a bonus, I also got the DVD of the movie from the library.

This darn book made me weep at the laundromat. Despite that, I couldn't recommend this book more highly to anyone who cares at all about music, its creation, performance and history. FIVE STARS, please.

"When he turned a corner he came on the sea, the sound of it sudden and as always unexpected; and as always he was struck by its equivocation. He heard the tired roar and felt its casual toil, the fresh breeze that whiffed of decay."

"It's good they don't need much space to dance in because there isn't any. The room is packed. Men groan their satisfaction, women hum anticipation. The music bends, falls to its knees to embrace them all, encourages them all to live a little, why don't you? since this is the it you've been looking for."

"While her aunt worried about how to keep the heart ignorant of the hips and the head in charge of both, Dorcas lay on a chenille bedspread, tickled and happy knowing that there was no place to be where somewhere, close by, somebody was not licking his licorice stick, tickling the ivories, beating his skins, blowing off his horn while a knowing woman sang ain't nobody going to keep me down..."

The first chapter of this installment as Mary Ann tries to find the San Francisco she remembered from forever ago had me on the verge of tears. And then the story got going and the pages started turning themselves. So tired this morning! :)

Wow. If you are a human being and have never read "Night", you owe it to yourself and everyone else on the planet to do so. Wiesel's prose is simple and elegant and his experience as a teenager who survived the Holocaust completely devasting.

So many of the divisions that existed at the end of the Civil War continue to tug at the seam of our union 150 years later - this book is fascinating, sad and scary as it sheds light on this current season of electoral divisions.

Greg is on page 92 of 107 of The Further Adventures of Ebenezer Scrooge: A Christmas Carol Continued
"Scrooge was alive, to begin with. There could be no doubt whatever about that - alive and kicking. Not that I know why that particular verb should exemplify life; for Scrooge's part it might better be said that he was alive and singing, or alive and laughing, or alive and generally making a nuisance of himself."
