Oh, and the second conversation between FMC and MMC including an allusion to sex 100% negates the “slow burn” tag, imo. Grumble grumble.

Ok so these exams. Seem exceptionally basic for having had 5 years of training, amirite? I mean, Harry forgot the definition of a switching spell? Mixed up incantations for growth and color changing? Girl, please.

Definitely made more sense to make the portkey an object requiring super difficult and specific circumstances for Harry to touch.

But also, I don’t think portkeys automatically transport one back to their origination point so…Harry would have been SOL.

If BCJ put Harry’s name in, couldn’t any older student have submitted a younger student’s name to defeat the age line?

I can never get over the fact they don’t put Peter in size-changing bindings.

Strange they didn’t think to practice conjuring a Patronus without the immediate threat of a Dementor.

Also, Quidditch is a silly sport. I appreciate JKR clearly is as much of a sports fan as we’d imagine an HP fanfic writer to be and hence created the stupidest scoring system imaginable.

I need something, ANYTHING, to happen. The burn part is missing so far; it’s just slow.

I’m not yet sure why we care about Grace except that her name is in the title.

I’m not totally sure what the rest of the book will be about. It seems like we’ve hit the climax unless there’s a duel or something to come. (Clearly I have no memory from when I read it before.)

Everyone is terrible. They need to get out of the house(s) and meet some new friggin people.

Note: the boats on the lake that take first years from Hogsmeade Station to Hogwarts are notably underused in the rest of the series. Seems like they’d be an excellent enabler of tomfoolery. I guess JK just kind of “forgot” about them.

It’s cute or whatever but like 100 pages too long. I no longer care how it ends…blah

Delicious little sugar cookie of a read.

Miss Peregrine’s House for the Peculiar Antichrist stars an MC who can’t decide if he’s an immature, ignorant, fearful teenaged girl who is on her first assignment or a grumpy, jaded middle aged man who has actually been interacting with magical children for a couple decades. I’m…bemused so far.

The vibe is Howl’s Moving Castle meets Spinning Silver. Much more appropriate for winter than mid-August, but whatcha gonna do.

The premise was cute enough, nice little slow burn, and then. And then. Something changed, and. Um. Ok. Well. I think I hated everything about that. Guess I’m learning new things about myself.

It’s good, but also very repetitive. Looking forward to some V for Vendetta-type Ministry of Love horror. War is Peace, comrades.

This book used to take me 2 hours to read. It has been days. I think my reading level has sunken to the murky depths of booktok. Ignorance is Strength, indeed.
