Read the second story, “Days,” and found it interesting in voice and feel to start, but ended up feeling repetitive rather than developing for me.

I was excited to read this book by another queer scientist, exploring nuances of nature and identity. But the first chapter left me with a kind of bewildered disappointment — not because I disagreed with the author’s values, but because those values felt flattened into an equally reductive binary. I sincerely hope later chapters move toward grounded explorations of specific and insights from the author’s expertise.

Apparently I now need to pause and read The Murder of Roger Ackroyd to avoid spoilers… 😮 Not that I blame the author, obviously, but I had been used to his taking examples from television and movies which I’ve seen if I were interested…

I don’t know about that chapter 2…

Some parts of this volume I have really enjoyed, but I’m increasingly finding the summarizing too much. I would rather be in the middle of court intrigues than so much happening off-page!
