Preston is on page 209 of 512 of Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind
So far my favorite chapters of the book have been the earlier ones about early human history and evolution but nonetheless every page is very intriguing. Learning so many new things and seeing things from new perspectives.

Finished chapter one which is a big information dump catching you up with basically everything that happened in the Middle East (and related areas) leading up 1800, where the rest of the book starts off from.

The history of the Middle East is even more confusing than I think I imagined but it’s incredibly interesting. You definitely need to have a basic knowledge of the Middle East before reading this.

Of course it’s interesting to learn about Easter Island’s history but it’s honestly just kind of boring at this point and I think that’s why it’s been taking me so long to read. It just kind of feels like I’m trying to just get through the book and there are all these Polynesian words being thrown around that I just don’t understand.

Started this yesterday. Got it at a bookstore in Florence. So far pretty interesting.

The book has gotten better towards the end so I feel a bit bad about some of my harsh comments… it’s still not the easiest read though and the author’s language seems almost intentionally confusing.

There have been some less problematic comments made in this book since I’ve gotten farther along since my last entry. Some stuff here and there is interesting but it’s still just kind of very wordy and pretentious. The author also says some things that are really looking through the lens of rose colored glasses.

It’s definitely very interesting, especially reading about America from the lens of a Frenchman… but I feel like the author really doesn’t truly know what he’s talking about. He sure does know how to romanticize the US and there are many greats points but it just seems like when it comes down to it he is just mostly spewing opinions that are disguised as facts.

Preston is on page 102 of 202 of Why Travel Matters: A Guide to the Life-Changing Effects of Travel
Starting to cover more subjects in the book. My only small note is that the book can be somewhat repetitive and it seems like the obvious is stated a lot or at least as though it’s meant for more of a beginner travel who hasn’t thought about these subjects much before. Overall though it’s interesting and I’m enjoying it. It has some interesting points.

Started reading this about a week ago. So far I’m enjoying it and it seems to be more about the philosophy of travel and place (and how they affect you) rather than the act of travel. Maybe I just haven’t gotten to parts that cover the act yet though.

hadn’t really read the book since early 2019. Read it for a little bit at one point but really started reading it again just this month. The book is getting quite good and hoping to finish it very soon.
