Starts off well, story of a family with a strong patriarch father and children who are guilted into academic excellence.

Half way through and still trying to figure out where this book is going in terms of plot.. characters and settings are interesting as is the relationship between the two brothers.

It’s just too long, I don’t know what the fuss is about.

It’s started off well enough but the plot is complex and keeps jumping from one setting (Gilead) to Canada. Which I find disconcerting.

Also it portrayal of the distopian society is borrowed heavily from today’s patriarchal society where a women role is pre-defined and limited to complement the male oriented households. So I’m still looking for an oomph factor in the plot. Maybe it will not disappoint.
