things are finally happening almost halfway through the book. POVs/timeline's a mess. Luca and Vale are friendship goals

trying to continue my fantasy streak and this one's really testing my resolve

1. didn't realise the [theatre] setting is inspired by ancient greek mythology so my own canon from reading euripedes' tragedies is a satisfying end to the work week
2. Jude is Nick Wilde-coded to a t; personality-wise and that he's a redhead
3. but for some reason my brain's coded Jude as blonde Tom Blyth playing TBOSAS Snow (pre-buzz cut) and icl, I love my brain for that

A dark YA fantasy with a theatre setting, murder + an enemies-to-lovers trope? the mention of Dionysus 8 lines into the first chapter? oh we're SO back

play #4: Iphigenia at Aulis - imagine leading an army set to rescue your SIL and the winds just aren't having it so this random monk tells you to sacrifice your daughter and you follow through with it. I personally could not, but ancient greek kings were on another level of literal “fuck around and find out” vibes.

divine frenzy is a reasonable excuse in mistaking your son for a lion. RIP Pentheus, you would've hated the Catholic Church.

fin. play #2 Orestes: Apollo swooping in a second time to play family counsellor, where the generational trauma lies in being blood-thirsty, god-pleasing, revenge-driven souls. if your mum was Clytemnestra, you too would be haunted and/or inspired by the amount of blood spilled by her and her sister.
