It's distracting how even the prose diminishes Jude's importance by exclusively referring to him by pronoun--never by name, even when it's awkward or outright grammatically incorrect.

And there is a sort of eeriness how each major section of Jude's story has so far been bisected by a first-person account by someone other than Jude. Are these people fracturing him or keeping him together?

Jude is so far outside of conventional life that he's never properly featured as the main character. We find him in the corner of his social circle, where he is characterized in frames dominated by the bigger, more energetic personalities around him. It feels as though even the story would prefer to ignore him and that he could be left behind at any given moment.

Every chapter is a medley of worlds within worlds within worlds. Ed's meticulous and thoughtful descriptions of perception evoke a special kind of reflection that feels cosmic.

I was expecting more of an account than a story, but the history of evolution is more of a Bildungsroman than I could have guessed

An interesting idea with a homage to kin selection and altruism, but I would like to see more quantitative support. At this point, these interpretations seem to be ex-post with minimal falsifiability

Perhaps one of the most chilling facts about irrational fears of germs is just how realistic they seem in light of growing ecological and epidemiological data
