Unlike a lot of ppl here on GR, I’m kinda loving this one… will see if it sticks.

Giving me the dead romantics vibes but not as good… so far, not impressed and i say this as CM fan. But hoping to be surprised…

Half way in and kind of bored. Plot is fine; execution leaves a lot to be desired.

Making me question all the LP books I gave relatively high ratings to… so far, not good

Trying (and failing?) to figure out what this book wants to be: literary fiction masquerading as a romcom or romcom pretending to be lit fiction? (Me thinks it’s the latter).

Who goes to a med school mixer wearing Louboutins?

The dedication, acknowledgments (which are upfront) and “dictionary” have made it hard to sympathize with the author who is basing this book on real experiences in med school. But she comes across as vindictive and petty. Not sure why I’m persisting…

So far, unimpressed. Interesting enough plot so I’m plodding along but the writing is really basic and it’s hard to imagine this is the same writer of the Harris brother series. Or maybe I’ve just become more discerning…

Skimmed a few more pages. Literally nothing happens in this book. It’s mostly them both pining for each other and objectifying each other. No character development whatsoever.

Exactly what I expect: a ridiculous storyline and some good banter… but also feels like I’ve read this before….

Hard to find books in the romcom genre featuring an FMC in her 40s. Loving this one so far. Have laughed out loud several times but also understand how the younguns might not appreciate/relate. But personally, I feel seen.

Let’s see if it can keep up the momentum.

Know how fifth grade language arts teachers beg you to add more description to your writing and so you just fill it with adjectives? That’s what this reads like. I also don’t know how it’s not published yet bc I’ve had it on my kindle for weeks. Maybe this is the unedited copy? Currently skimming but really should just abandon.

Still bored.

A scathing critique of US settler colonialism. Cannot help but think of Gaza as I read this:

“Ania & I saw clearly then that the Indians who lived beside us had been made into prisoners on their homeland. What had happened to the Poles in GER was happening here & no settler lifted a hand to stop it. Quite the opposite. Many settlers spoke openly in support of forcing the Pawnees to leave Nebraska”

Should I skim the rest? Or just abandon ship?

Gets significantly more interesting about a third of the way in…. But how is there still half a book for me to read!?

Almost half way in and bored to tears. Tell me it gets better… (I’m usually a fan of HBY’s books but…)

Not an easy read… devastating and haunting.

It’s been a week… how am I only 25% in? And why are these chapters so long? It’s not even a big book… And yet I persist…

So much grief, beauty and healing in this book… enjoying the ride.

Piper and Capt James Taggert redux.

Whoever said this is fanfic of the Love Hypothesis is right on the mark.

I am clearly the audience for this book…

So far, loving this. Caitlin Moss knows how to write swoon worthy kisses and we just don’t get enough of that in open door romances (which tend to go straight to sex) so I’m appreciating the attention being given to kissing…

Y’all, how many fake marriages does Sheila Wilder have to put up with????

For reasons I don’t understand. I’m imagining both protagonists to be British.

So far so good… creative take on the fake marriage trope.

Cannot stand Jonah. So incredibly selfish. I'm out.

A fifth way in and so not impressed by Jonah. And I have a feeling it won’t get better… not sure I will persevere. I do like the setting though…

So good! Funny, tender, well written….ultimate slow burn - loving it.
