I'm really contemplating whether I should finish this or not. It's bad. Help.

Strong start. Evander Mills is such a refreshing narrator. Him balancing introspection and investigation all while watching over his shoulder makes him a very compelling character to be in the shoes of. The story is smart, stylish, and sorrowful all at once.

✏️📒I DO judge books by their covers, and this one is SO cute. I've seen numerous complaints about cheesy lines. This tries to blend cozy romcom with fated mate open-door spice. It isn't effortless, IT doesn't even really know what it is- in turn making it hard to rate so far. I love Sean Masters. I love a demon prince. But, he's called her "little witch" waaay too many times. Don't wear it out😭

The risqué photos that were never released despite threats because the police were called. So, who would possibly have access to the photos? DETECTIVE CRANE. Who is involved with the police!

Crane is the killer, right?... RIGHT? Has to be 😭

What I like so far: I think many modern cozies often miss the mark on MAKING you suspicious. Childs is doing well so far - referring to the killer as an "uninvited guest" so I assumed they weren't a friend/family member of the victim. But now, Delaine seems quite dodgy with her FORBIDDING people from going into the greenhouse. Is she just dramatic and protective? Or murderous? 🍵

Asian culture and mysticism are such great ideas to mesh. They're this synergy I haven't gotten sick of, but this series cannot hold me. The tries at feminism with Kaede. It's as if she only wishes to be strong because others say she cannot be because she's a woman. Although, she's acting in the exact way men see women rebelling. Full of useless cries and meaningless disobedience. I feel no humanity with her. D-n-f.

Only 166 pages in, and I can already say this is one of the best sequels I've read. Usually, when it comes to books, the arches are never as interesting and don't carry the story over well enough. This one definitely does and makes me even more eager to finish the trilogy.
