Phenomenal collection - almost every story is worth reading so far, with some truly greats as well.

so far, phenomenal! clever dialogue is always a treat, and the relationship between the primary characters is wonderful, a sort of older and even more eccentric (female) holmes with a very young and uncertain watson. add in some biopunk fantasy worldbuilding and i’m here for it.

Reminiscent of Diamond Age and Cryptonomicon, as usual Stephenson frequently (almost constantly) uses the characters experiences to take us on long, almost technical divergences from the story, consisting of whatever interesting subject he has exhaustively researched recently, in an interesting and story adjacent manner. If that sounds like a positive attribute, then you will probably like this book, which I do!

This is Stephenson in top form. The plot, which has traditional elements (or if you prefer, tropes) including coming of age, accidental adventure, save the world, political machinations, and martial arts hero among others, continues to surprise me at how engaging it is.

Great book so far! It’s a bit mysterious, great sci-fi worldbuilding. That pretty much all it takes to draw me in, we’ll see if it pays off… but I suspect it will

Great! Rereading the series. Love it just as much, if not more.

I think this will end up being 5 stars. The character development is exquisite, as is the main characters all-too-real struggle with mental health. Coming off the incredibly bland “Velocity Weapon”, this is a breath of fresh air.

Wow. What a beautiful, messed up book. Its like the author took the concept of deja vu, smashed it into the concept of time travel via quantum theory, and wrapped that around a police procedural from the mind of Lovecraft.

Super interesting and quirky alternate... climate? Or maybe genetic? Alternate something in any case.

I’m quite enjoying this one. A kind of contemplative apocalyptic novel, if that makes sense. So far, there’s been very little tension, just one (mostly) characters internal monologue. It’s rather relaxing, except for the waiting for the other show to drop.

Wow I forgot how great this book is. Listening to it this go around, and the voice actor is incredible. Best audiobook I think I’ve listened to yet.

Quite good if you like Abercrombie’s combination of fatalism and gallows humor.

So this book is amazing. Apparently I didn’t finish it the first time, because wow... definitely don’t remember any of this. I won’t go into the plot, but the constant scholarly dialogues between academic characters about everything from astronomy to philosophy to quantum physics is possibly the best thing I’ve read in years.

This is much better than I remember. Possibly because I'm older and wiser and getting more from it this time, but also part of the reason must be that I'm listening to it instead of reading, which some books just seem meant for... I'd have to say this may be one. The clever things he does with language and vocabulary, combined with the glacial pace is really working for me right now.
