Oof. Finally made it through the intro. A book about explaining that which can't be explained and getting nowhere. Reading this because friends recommended it. The subtitle "/i A Journey into Consciousness i/" sounds futile so I hope I can find something to latch onto...

I am so tired of this topic. Sometimes I wish I was the kind of person who could set an unfinished book aside.

Hober Mallow introduces the self-proclaimed Well-Beloved regent of the people to the religion of Free Market economics: " '...since the power unit of this particular item will not last longer than six months, there will be the necessity of frequent replacement...' The Commdor... seemed engaged in awesome mental calculations, 'Galaxy, how they would fight for them. I'll keep the supply small and let them bid.' "

I carry a book for all occasions. It has been a long time since I have been with a book where I want to carve out special occasions, such as long lunches, for just the two of us.

I'm finally reading Elmore Leonard! I didn't realize this was a collection of short stories, but I expect to be ok with this author.

George MacDonald is one of my favorite authors so when I saw this book the last time I went shopping for a child's birthday, I bought it for myself.

I am also carrying around a copy of Yondering by Loius L'Amour so I that I won't pull out The Princess and the Goblin if I'm sitting at the bar.

The awesome cover art and the yellowed pages of this 1972 edition, along with the cool name of Alistair MacLean and vague memories of the author from my childhood, made this 99 cent purchase at Goodwill irresistible.

Surprisingly slow start. I'm still struggling with vernacular and terminology. I expected to have the swing of this by now, but I still have to reread dialog to decipher whether these 19th Century sailors are insulting each other or about to fall into each other's arms.
