Olderworker is on page 76 of 320 of The Land of Spices
However, the library asked for it back. I think I'm done with it; it was really dull reading.

It's taken me three months to read this. It's sad to realize how misguided my people have been about slavery and Jim Crow and all manner of uncivilized behavior. It's difficult reading about it.
On the other hand, Ms.Neiman is a terrific writer, who weaves in little bits of humor when she can, so I'm enjoying much if the book.
I definitely recommend it, though it is emotionally tough to read.

So far, I am disappointed with this book. I thought it would be light reading for the beach. The writing is terribly dry and it's hard to relate to the characters.

I think it's generally a good book, though I have the impression that most of the Black people the writer has interaed with have been members of the bourgeosie.
