Almost a hundred pages in. The question is "Do I carry on reading or bin it"? Absolutely nothing has happened, characters are paper thin, storyline....unsure.

Want to persevere but don't want it to be one of those "Why did I bother"? Books.

Any recommendations welcome. Thanks.

Only a third of the way through this but bloody hell , gotta be the best read of the year! Rude, crude and utterly gruesome but absolutely brilliant. God knows what it says about my state of mind but I am LOVING this book.....

So cleverly written, setting it up nicely and even though it is book eight in the series, still gripping and compelling.

Couldn't carry on reading this.. Deleted it from my kindle. Awful writing style. No flow, very staccato. Five words then a full stop. Just no.

Absolutely loving this book. Descriptive, imaginative, intriguing and competently written. Lots of plots and sub plots whist being believably true to the historical content. It really captures the tone of the time and with three main storylines within one, there's plenty to keep you turning the pages for more!

Just about to start this with eager anticipation. Cheers Ric Leaman.

To much of the same nothing......making me stop start stop start.....so much potential but not executed well enough and thus slightly disappointed..... will carry on though....

This book is just BRILLIANT! Can not put it down. So much depth to characters, places, sights, sounds, smells and feelings...... so much character development of the main protagonist. And for me, as with anyone who has a strong bond with animals and in particular, dogs.....then deep emotion runs strong in this........ have to read it to truly understand what is hard to describe......

Early days in terms of reading progress but can honestly say..... Don't think that I have ever been so impressed with a fantasy writing style such as this ! Hobb's writing is so deep, descriptive, thorough and immensely captivating. Subtle little details really enhance the 'there and then' feel to the story and you become totally immersed in everything that is going on. Brilliant so far...... now back to the story!

Very enlightening....and quite scathing on US History recordings!! The author is quick to point out varying accounts from both US and British perspectives .... and it would appear that a lot of background research and digging has gone into this book.

Interesting and informative but annoyingly the author seems to want to repeat himself two out three times on every point made, which is frustrating and honestly unnecessary.......

Never really enjoyed first person novels previously, but Harris is such a brilliant author, this book is captivating, intriguing, interesting and thoroughly enjoyable. The style is informative and very descriptive and captures the era perfectly. His narrative leaves you second guessing every twist and turn to make you actually feel that you are the main character. Gripping!!
