It’s important to record oral histories of rapidly integrating and disappearing cultures. I appreciate that the author takes care to distinguish pre-colonial versions of stories versus imperialist versions that tend to reflect different mores than what seems to have been intended. For example, the legend of Kurupi in later colonialist versions makes the spirit out to be a rapist

My son and I have been reading this at bedtime
The last few nights. We read all the currently published graphic novels in this series, which he loved almost as much as he loves pokemon (which says a lot!). And so we moved onto the full
Length novels of the same. His impressions of some of the dragons and reading of the prophecy is hilarious!

I didn’t realize until now this was written in 1988! It felt very contemporary, including use of sentient drones, tablets, internet, etc.
impressed by implications of this section page 79: “ the culture had theoretical total freedom of information; the catch was that consciousness was private and information held in a Mind as opposed to an unconscious system was as sacrosanct as the contents of a human brain”
