This is shedding a lot of light on views in literature, such as "Freckles" by Gene Stratton Porter & "Dear Enemy" (sequel to Daddy Long Legs) by Jean Webster. I love the stories, but there remains some issues within these books due to classism and eugenics.

I vary between wanting to weep and rage. 9. Parallel Paths: Doug and Howard has me wanting to weep. They were adopted separately at 6 months old in spite of showing signs of the twin bond and in spite of being each other's one constancy while moving at least 2x in foster care during those 6 months. I do not understand these researchers. Both twins began head banging & other signs of distress when separated.

Startled to realize that Elaine Mazlish (who cowrote How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk) adopted one of a fraternal set of twins from the study. Intrigued all the more now.

You could use this book for a drinking game, just off of the constant reference to the "global pandemic." 😬

This is a devastating listen in so many ways, after losing my grandfather to Alzheimers 2 years ago. The love within the pages is beautiful, but oh the pain.

Bawling already. It's a well done book but it's making me cry, darn it.

I'm curious to see if this improves. I get the concept of grit. I want to know if she talks about how to apply grit to life outside of careers or to weird outlying careers like say, a homeschool mom. I'm mildly frustrated by her definition of success being CEOs and Olympic athletes etc., does she talk about normal people? Life would fall apart if we all followed passions and no one took care of the nitty gritty jobs.

I've fallen in love with the family in these pages and it breaks my heart to know what is to come.

I'm finding I need to read this in short spurts and broken up by lighter reads. It just makes me so angry.

Reading as an adult: Ram Dass is pretty dang stalkerish. Realizing anew how vulnerable kids could be back then. And I'd love more of the Minchins backstory.
