Tess is on page 412 of 825 of Rollende Steine /Echt zauberhaft: Zwei Scheibenwelt-Romane in einem Band
Rollende Steine: Wie immer ein unterhaltsamer Roman aus der Scheibenwelt, allerdings wirkte er diesmal hektisch/zerfahren, aber vielleicht lag das auch an meinem unregelmäßigen Leseverhalten. 3.5 Sterne

The Valley of Fear: The case was entertaining, but I really dislike Doyle's habit of splitting the narrative of the book into 2 parts. It really throws you out of the book and then it's hard getting into it again.

A Storm of Swords: This book read tremendously better than the second book or even the first one. There was actually happening a lot of stuff and there were some interesting new POV characters. Even so, GRRM still spreads the plot on too many pages, e.g. there's an 10-something pages long epilogue about a completely irrelevant character, just for one key-scene that happens on the last page. An editor would've helped.

#2 - Catching Fire: Book #2 is, despite being a little unstructured, just as much a pageturner as the first one, just as ... actually it's almost the same plot as before. Because Katniss opposed the Capitol in her first Hunger Games, she has to attend them again. I kept waiting for Collins to resolve the plot because I didn't expect her to actually describe another round of games again. But she did. 4 stars

The Hunger Games 1#: Well, that was an exciting read. Despite already having seen the movie, it had me turing the pages again and again. The writing is simple (a little too simple for my taste), but it's solid and conveys what needs to be conveyed. We don't get all that much background about Katniss, at least it feels like that, but the story makes up for it a lot. 4.5 stars

A Clash of Kings: I have to say that I had to force myself through this a little. The book starts out interesting enough, but then loses itself in various plotlines. In none of them is happening much. That and certain unlucky POV choices had me thinking that less pages would've been more in this case. The last 150 to 200 pages become exciting again and are worth the read, though. 3.5 stars

A Game of Thrones: The book is very close to the TV show (or vice versa^^) and I liked it a lot. It reads easily and quickly enough, but the writing isn't exactly high literature. The story is what does it. As for the gratuitous sex I've seen some people complain about - there is none. At least in the first volume there are barely more than 2 sex scenes and they're nowhere near explicit. I can't wait to read on!

Tess is finished with Total verhext / Einfach göttlich
Einfach göttlich/Small Gods: This one was so much better than Witches abroad. It started out a little weak but got better very quickly. A typical Pratchett: funny and insane but somewhere underneath really quite philosophical. 4.5 stars

Total verhext/Witches abroad: I thought it was funny and well written as usual, but the story felt very random at times. One of Pratchett's not so strong books. 3.5 stars

Tess is finished with The Eagle of the Ninth Chronicles (The Eagle of the Ninth / The Silver Branch / The Lantern Bearers)
The Lantern Bearers: This was a much more tragic and darker book than the first three, but exciting and enjoyable nonetheless. Aquila's journey and development is interesting to read, although the story does drag from time to time. 4 stars

The Eagle of the Ninth: The first book is a wonderful YA novel. It's entertaining and enjoyable. The book is clearly about Marcus, although I wish that there would've been more emphasis on and dialogue between other characters like Esca and Cottia. 4 stars
