Pretty interesting.

I wanted more about her own friendships. She mixes interesting historical accounts with stories about different friend groups. While she dies this deftly, in my opinion parts of the book were boring

It deals with memory, old age, family relations and the Hermitage in WWII. I am enjoying the descriptions of various paintings, which I look up as they’re described. The concept of shipping your children away to prevent them from being killed - what an idea!

Slow

It’s pretty funny, even though it starts with attempted suicide. Phoebe, an English professor, is at the end of her rope when she gets to The Cornwall Inn. She doesn’t even bring her suitcase with her. Her husband has left her for her colleague, and she’s not getting any joy from her job. But then she meets Lila and the wedding people, who have taken over the rest of the hotel for Lika and Gary’s nuptials.
