This book tears your heart out. Shreds it. Piece by piece.

Such intelligently worded imagery:

Was not expecting such beautifully constructed scenes.

Great characters in good scenes.

Didn’t get far in my initial plunge but it has a bold beginning that carries into a lovely first-person narrative. Enticing mix.

The Rise (2/3 into final story): the game is afoot…the jig is up…all or nothing, baby…in for a penny, in for a pound…

This story has that last scene in Thelma and Louise vibe!
But without the tears!

Quirky: generally assigned to a weirdish young girl who doesn’t fit the norms but is influenced by a childhood experience.
Batty: generally assigned to older women who don’t fit the norms but are shaped by a vast number of past experiences.
Margaret is batty.

The Rise( 1/3 thru this final story): what we’ve all been waiting for? Is Alan Baxter going to give up the full goods on Gulpepper and all its weirdness?

The Island, Canto 4: if you ever read The Island, be sure to read the Appendix. It will help you understand what the poem is about. Byron leans on so much history in his dramatic writings.

The Gulpepper Institute of Health and Wellbeing (end): over-the-top cringy gruesomeness. Nice to see the ladies rise to the occasion.

You know, the more I read about Margaret, the more I see myself in her. Yikes!

The Gulpepper Institute of Health and Wellbeing (1/2 home):
Nothing creepy about a fix-it-all rehab place for rich goth chicks in Gulpepper, right? Nothing weird at all. ☠️❣️

Vitulinum (end): Gruesome, grotesque, and grim. Gain the end feels not like ending. Those lines bindings between stories grow tighter.

I’m so baffled by how much less impressive this book is from Pillars of the Earth.

The Island, Canto 3:
“She was a warrior’s daughter, and could bear
Such sights, and feel, and mourn, but not despair.

Vitulinum (2/3 done): while the language is harsh, this story still reminds me of the old Goosebumps tales. Probably because of all the kids.
