What I’m reading now in this book is so incredibly stupid that it’s difficult to read. Hard to imagine giving this book more than two stars after this. Doormat main character who thinks she’s a side character. Ugh!

In a frustrating part of a very good book!

These are fun. But I’m never going to believe that an expert SAR guy is wearing JEANS to go on a search and rescue with a storm coming in—jeans?! I reported it to Amazon as a typo haha. #cottonkills

This book is good in some ways and interminable in others. Main character is annoying and has terrible dialogues and word choice that makes no sense. Her inner thoughts are slightly less annoying. I may push through.

“Dear old grandma”

About this late 50s woman talking about a thirty something and 11yo. Very old-fashioned book. Maybe they don’t really have cell phones and it’s the 1950s.

“An older lady, perhaps mid-fifties, with neat, grey hair and wearing an apron appeared from a door along the hall…” 🤣

How old is this author? I realize perspectives change but even in my 20s/30s, I didn’t think of someone in her 50s being an “older lady”. Um, try middle-aged? I think I’ll report for content error. lol.

Jumping in a river is gross enough but a murky river? I hope there’s a nose plug so she doesn’t ingest a brain-eating amoeba.

Why is a diary entry “the fic”? Local Gen Z hasn’t heard this usage so I’m guessing this is some millennial thing. “I write aspirational stories in my middle school journal so now it’s a fic.” Whatever.

How far before a DNF can count towards my “read”? I don’t even care who the murderer is. How did this become such a lengthy series? Why did I see it on a recent list? I don’t get it.

Characters aren’t likable. Writing is stilted, and feels like it’s from the 1950s but was updated to have a female “doctor” and an iPhone. Very dated, sexist feel. Trying to be inspector Gamache type of book (by going into thoughts of many characters), but not compelling in that way. Deciding whether to press on or not.

Frustrating male character so far; seems like an a**hole.

I started this a while ago. Two complaints: (1) why can’t we get the audio in the US? This would be much more readable as an audiobook; and, (2) the first chapter/intro was way too long and more like an article, rather than setting the stage for the book. I almost gave up on it altogether

Not the best so far and I LOVE Anne of Green Gables! Also: I’m sick of authors not knowing how to spell west coast major cities/universities. It may just be a kindle typo, but it’s ridiculous.

Nothing has happened so far! I’ve had to look up only a few of the cousin Oliver characters in the outlander wiki, so that’s good. It’s comforting of course to read another outlander book, but weird after watching all those seasons in between.

I don’t love this so far. A lot will have to change, I think. Her YA books are better. (These characters act like 18yo young adults, but are actually millennials.)

This book is very well-written--great characterizations. It just moves slowly.
