Having read the chapter “What Our Sins Evoke,” I was expecting to hear something of a sort of disgust or revulsion coming from God the father to us, and that Jesus intercedes with mercy for us. But my view of God the Father is skewed. It’s to my shame that I’ve been in Christ for 25 years this August and I’ve yet to understand the Father. But I heard of a God who loves me, hates my sin, yet draws near.

This will be a short but powerful read. Already I feel called out and encouraged, like finally someone else deals with the same doubts, fears, and guilty failures I feel on a daily basis: Dane Ortlund. Yet he is showing me Jesus in a new-yet-familiar way. I look forward to reading subsequent chapters. I got this book out of the library but will add it to my personal collection at some point.
