Ooof, this is grim.

He mentioned Love and Money and Strange Kind of Love! Of all the things I thought would be in Rick Astley’s book, I did not expect that.

I am loving this so far. Rick Astley and Alex Petridis tell a great story together and Rick comes across as the decent guy he seems to be.

“Often, educators and politicians speak and are not understood because their language is not attuned to the concrete situation of the people they address.” The language of this book is not attuned to my situation 😆

Oof, this is hard going. I wonder if the translator has stuck too literally to the original, or if it’s a very specific style I’m not used to. I’m not saying the ideas are bad, I am just getting bogged down in the language.

I feel like I’ve read this, but Goodreads doesn’t agree with me, so I’m going to read it now to be sure!

"I soon discovered that what the hospital expected of me as a wife was as unrealistic as what I had expected of it as a medical facility."

The bits in Hungary are pretty funny though.

I’m not enjoying it so much the second time round. Everything just seems to happen to Selin, and it feels a bit flat. I think I loved the absurd feeling last time, but this time I’d love more connection between things, and more reaction from Selin. I still like “Nina in Siberia” though. I’m quite surprised how far I got before Ivan starts becoming a main character.

Had to return to library. Up to chapter about painting X chromosome.

You have to start by understanding it in simple situations, but those are usually so simple that you don’t need the complicated mathematics at all, so the whole thing seems pointless. But if you launch straight in trying to understand it in a really complicated situation, it’s too hard.”

I suspect my reo’s not up to this, but I’ll see if I can understand a bit!

This book is very silly. I’m doing a lot of eye-rolling.
