This book is such a mess of good concepts with terrible examples. The most standout example is this chapter’s story of Lars, who decided to work out despite his wife’s protests that it’s unfair that she can’t. After a while, he reaps the benefits and she decides to put the kids into daycare so she can work out.
So why couldn’t he be supportive and work with her to figure that out in the first place?

Reading as part of a men's reading group. Gotta say, not encouraged. I don't disagree with the premise, per se, but there's some questionable analysis in here, particularly its reductive takes on feminism in the 60s/70s (man-haters/shamers) and people who were against the Vietnam War (they just hate violence and don't understand patriotic duty). Yikes.

I can only read this in bursts. These stories take time to process. “The Book of Facts” managed to pull a Bojack on me: kind of a meandering, mildly difficult series of uncomfortable events until the final couple of paragraphs suddenly sucked the wind out of me.

I FOUND MY COPY
I was about to buy a new one, too, but it happened to be with the stuff from my office move. Eagerly back on it!

This book is astonishing out of the gate. I can see how it’s not for everyone, but its use of misdirection is masterful. You think you’re reading something funny and weird when suddenly it fills your heart with warmth, or flat-out breaks it. There’s hope and banality and bleakness and uncertainty.

I can’t remember the last time that writing spoke to me like this. What a beautiful book.

Dense and dizzyingly wise, while as easy to read as a friendly conversation. I’ve never seen anything quite like this. I’m inclined to buy the digital version just to be able to highlight and search it.

This book is weird. These stories are weird. None of them are particularly gripping, just... weird.
