Lindsay Buroker is one of my favorite authors. Fallen Empire will likely always be my favorite series of hers, but this is definitely a close second (so far, after book 3 of 5). I mean, I'm not waking up still worried about how the characters are faring (Leonidas!).

Written like a slow-moving television drama series. I'm finding I am not able to relate to these characters, nor the parts that must be considered humorous or ironic (by people within a team similar to at a firehouse).

Good writing, just doesn't make me feel comfortable.

Having partial narration from a cat's point of view is interesting but tends to be slow and dramatic like a very lazy teenager. Interesting for mystery stories.

I am so lost and not appreciating the characters or the world as much as I would like. So I'm rereading Warleader (book 1 in the series) now!

"She is All" is the Drixonian credo and I can't get Rowboat (Beck/Johnny Cash) out of my head.

Lone Prince: *** I thought this was a reimagining of Beauty and the Beast--Stuck in a castle with a grumpy, brooding prince. But the heroine has a red coat, goes to visit her granny and the prince is named Wolfe, it is obviously a reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood. Reminded me of the movie The Prince and Me, which started as a non-HEA so she can pursue her PhD. Needed some humor or more character development.

I am having a hard time getting through this book and I'm not sure if I will finish. Too many analyzed moments where the characters need a slap upside the head. I understand waiting and anticipation, and avoiding true feelings are the main elements to the drama of the story, but it's just too much drama.
