I don’t think I’ve ever read from the perspective of a Colombian character and it’s making me very happy :-)

Daughter of Colombian to U.S. immigrants let’s goooooo

Omg if I didn’t have to wake up early I would stay up and finish this tn. It’s heartbreaking (not even a strong enough word) how the exploitation and devaluation/commodification/objectification/dehumanization of Black bodies is normal and intentional under capitalism! Everyone should read this. The worst part is it does not feel like a dystopia at all.

“For me, I thought of how the world can be anything and how sad it is that it’s this.”

Almost 4 am and can’t sleep so reading

Ok I read more about the reception of this book (usually try to avoid while reading but yeah) and I have a lotttttt of thoughts

So this reads like a horror story for me bc I am so scared for girly pop even tho I know how it ends. The truly scary thing is the regularness of this teenage girl. Opening her diary with her goal weight. Hating her parents/feeling like no one understands her. She feels all alone. I’m scared to keep reading (but can’t wait to keep reading)

I’m interested to see where they’re going with it now. Not sure if it’s moving slowly or if the world building is still necessary

I’m not usually a note taker but I’ve been dropping every other paragraph to write something in the margins
