DNF at 36%. This and Shadow and Bone are on a ton of “Best of” lists, so I bought them both while they were cheap. There’s nothing hugely wrong with either of them, but they’re very “YA” in the bad sense of the word. A sad and humble female protagonist who...falls in love? Or maybe just is groomed and then taken advantage of by an incredibly old man. Might get better, but can’t be bothered to find out.

This book has an interesting premise and engaging characters, but I’m hardly motivated to read it.

DNF at 30%. The snark was entertaining at first, but pretty soon it turned into a mediocre stand-up routine pastes over a grammar manual. It was interesting, but not enough to keep going.
