I thought this book was about someone named Althea??? Where the heck is our main character???? What is this multi-perspective nonsense?????

This book has THE MOST BORING OPENING I have ever read, EVER. It's like a lesson in how to open a book as slowly, most uninterestingly as possible lmao.

BUT this book has such good reviews I SHALL PERSIST.

I'M NOT READY for the ending of this book. Especially having read reviews that say the ending is not great. AAAAAAAAAAH

Where book one was better than I remembered, this book is worse.

The entire plot around Molly. "you listened when she said 'no,' which means you don't love her enough. if you really loved her, you'd ignore her when she tells you she isn't interested" and then breaking her lock, sneaking in her window...

I know her saying 'no' is a lie on her part, but even so, this entire part of the plot absolutely disgusts me.

Adjusted my goodreads goal from 80 to 60 so that I could complete it because I hate not completing them lol...

Really did not read much at all this year... stress, unhappiness, other hobbies... all combined to make it a rough year for reading.

BUT, I just finished my first paper book in MONTHS and dare I say, I feel excited about reading for the first time since maybe February. A good feeling to end the year on!

So far it is 1000% as great as I remember. Look, okay, angsty forced marriage with background of political maneuverings in space plus added bonus of complex world building and oh yeah it's gay, is EXACTLY MY JAM, TO A T, YOU LITERALLY CANNOT GET MORE MY JAM

No no no, we see Achilles demonstrating his love for patroclus. We are told of their love. But where do we see the WHY??? Where are the actions that show us WHY Achilles loves patroclus, rather than simply THAT Achilles loves patroclus. Frustrating.

Okay, okay, okay. Part of the point is that Achilles doesn't understand what he has in Patroclus until it's gone. That's why we don't see his love. But the fade to black on most of their relationship still bothers me. Clearly there is love there somewhere.

Part of me wants to give this book 4 starts and part of me wants to give it 2. I love things here but I deeply hate things here

Nope. There's no chemistry. Even the Iliad is more romantic than tbis stupid book. All the romance is offscreen and told to us about how much Patroclus loves achilles but where do we actually see Achilles like patroclus. Where do we ever get SHOWN them having a relationship past page 120 or so???????

Okay, here goes... Doing it for book club.

I really, really, really don't think I'll like this. I know how it ends. I hate sad books. And I disliked Circe, on top of which I don't understand why other people liked it. So, we'll see.

Like okay, we get it, no one can remember her, it sucks, you don't need 125 pages to set that premise up, get ON with it pleaseeeee

... Did I go into this with too high expectations???

It's not bad per se, but very boring? Like, there's no drive to the plot at all? But not in an enjoyable way, more in a very full of itself way, like "hello, the flowery writing should do it for you thanks very much, you don't need any plot" kinda thing?

I groan a little bit louder every time it switches back to the 1710's again.

Well, still not reading much :(

But I did finally catch up my goodreads on all the things I missed adding. I'm at 95/110 for this year: Can I read 15 books in December???? I WILL DO IT!!

Really liking this so far

Reading this on audio. I like the ideas and a lot of the stuff here, but it's just so slow I don't ever feel like picking it up :(
