"Times are always strange. Art is always out of place. Always unnecessary when it's made. And later, when you look back, it's the only thing that mattered."

Damn, this book is good!

I really hope people don’t get too swept up in the Oprah hype going into this, because it is a slow, depressing, and narrow story about socially invisible people with virtually zero plot. It will definitely not be everyone’s favorite.
HOWEVER, it is also pure poetry! The prose is beautiful and will hook you from the very first chapter. Enjoy the writing, sink in, and don’t expect it to pick up the pace much.

Ugh!! Has anyone ever actually read chapter 50?! I couldn’t make out any of the words on the page through my constant weeping, but I assume it was beautiful. 😭
I never update on here mid-book but I had to take a break to compose myself.

The content itself is great and very digestible, but there is no excuse for the typos and grammatical errors. I get that a handful of mistakes in the first 300 pages isn't the end of the world but it really takes me out of the experience and makes me not want to pick it back up and keep reading.
