I think this genre might not be for me, at all.

But then, I expected the MMC to actually be a baddie, not an emo edgelord. Christ.

I don't understand Cade and his violence towards Ophelia. If this mofo really believed that she was a Demon (and not a contestant) wouldn't he be worried about her rocking his shit if he pissed her off too much?

This character/plot point doesn't make any sense.

I'm still trying to figure out what time period this book is set in. The characters speak and curse in a really modern way, but the setting/fashion described is giving late 1880's. It's bothering me.

Also, finally met Blackwell. He seems fun. I hate Ophelia. Why is she so damn rude and entitled?

I've DNF'ed this for now. Maybe I'll come back and try again later....

We started off strong with a very dark and moody atmosphere - rituals, dead mother's body, a reluctant transfer of necromantic power...and now we're dealing with the bank and a home foreclosure. Hooray.

There's a lot of mentions of horse-drawn carriages, but also motor vehicles and I'm really struggling to figure out what era the author is trying to set this story in. Turn of the century kind of thing?

I'm one chapter in and hooked - can't wait to devour this!

For someone who has a serious fear of flying (and plane crash trauma) she flies around the world an awful lot with no problem throughout this book.

The most unbelievable thing so far is that Nate's been stationed in Georgia for more than two years.

And his whining about shooting people in a war zone. What did he think he was going to be doing in the Rangers? Sus.

So far, the only character who's actions and motivations make sense are Serena's - the FMC's sister. This does not bode well.

This is likely going to be a DNF for me. Maas can tell me Celaena is a badass assassin all she wants, but the FMC is just a whiny little shit who cares more about kissing and dresses than...I dunno, staying alive and earning her freedom!?

There is literally zero chemistry between Nate and Izzy. I'm sorry, but I just can't spot it. All they do is argue and glare at each other in the modern scenes. Some of the flashbacks are kind of cute, but Nate is such a wet blanket of a character I find it hard to enjoy his POV at all.

It's slow going with this one.

I'm getting emotional whiplash because I can't keep up with who's horny one minute and raging mad the next for no real reason.

I swear, if I have to read about Ethan's swirly lightning eyes ONE. MORE. TIME....

I really need some recommendations for good sci-fi. Specifically space operas with maybe a dash of romance?

This winter is really kicking my butt. I barely have the energy to work 9-5, do my Pilates, and find time to eat ~ let alone read! I miss books!
