I switched to the abridged version so I can finish this behemoth!

Alexis is finished with Dark Matter
Fun, engaging, kind of between a mystery thriller and sci-fi. The ending surprised me in a good way!

Alexis
Alexis is starting The Hypocrite
Somehow kept me reading despite being fairly boring. I wouldn’t really recommend it and it felt zeitgeisty without anything specific to say.

Whenever I leave a review like this though I think, well, at least they wrote it and got their story out! Maybe there’s something there.

Alexis is starting Yellowface
Must agree with other reviews that this is a bit heavy handed. It’s an interesting premise but way too drawn out And hand holding. If you love to hate the main character, check it out 😆

Alexis is starting Women in Exile: Wives of the Decembrists
Very interesting introduction to the wives of the Decembrist revolutionaries. There are also some good excerpts of letters and memoirs at the end.

Alexis is starting Modern Japanese Stories: An Anthology
Nice collection and intriguing prints. I got this at a famous English bookstore in Tokyo and have been enjoying reading the stories.

Alexis is starting Great Adaptations: Star-Nosed Moles, Electric Eels, and Other Tales of Evolution’s Mysteries Solved
Absolutely engaging and delightful. The author has such a light hearted style, it reminds me of Douglas Adams. There are fascinating creatures and interactions here. I think this book also benefits from being just the right length! The author or editors or someone did a great job of making every word count. Additionally there are captivating photos and QR codes linking to videos, so it's just a great experience.

Alexis is starting The Winter of the Witch (The Winternight Trilogy, #3)
Such a great fantasy adventure. Also, the author is 100% a horse girl, you just know it.

Alexis is starting The Work of the Dead: A Cultural History of Mortal Remains
I’m giving up on this one as it is way too wordy. I can’t skim because there’s definitely interesting stuff hidden in there, but he seems to quote literally everyone and somehow also not say much. I read 100 pages that somehow all said almost the same thing. I love the idea of this book, but would like an abridged version.

Alexis is starting The Scholar of Moab
“Well the thought that there were Communists joining up with modern Gadianton Robbers burning books in the Library had set the Moab Mormons aflame.”

If that sentence doesn’t excite you, no evil thing will!

Alexis is starting Women's Work: The First 20,000 Years: Women, Cloth, and Society in Early Times
I don’t know if I’ll finish this one, it was interesting but not exactly engaging enough. Also I’m more of a knitter and most of this is about weaving 😂

Alexis is starting The Son and Heir: A Memoir
A bit long winded, so unless you’re a very specific kind of history buff or are connected to this family’s history, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. I found parts interesting but also ended up skipping to the end.
