Chapter Eleven "Cowboy Camp"

Reading on audio, slowly. It feels really important to hear the author’s voice. I recommend it to everyone because we all need to hear these conversations and historical framework. It’s confirming my own thoughts on a lot of current hot topics that have never really gone away.

I was enjoying this but had to return to library - the hold list is long but if you liked her other writing I’m guessing you’ll like this one as well.

This has been…boring. Maybe edit these first 70 pages by half? Guess it’s too late. I may finish one day. Maybe not. BUT I will forgive Ms. Shelley as she fell in love with a married older man, had multiple pregnancies by him as a teenager and lost at least one infant as well as other tragedies during the writing. Also “classics” just aren’t really for me. [Shoulder shrug].

If you liked this book please tell me because it’s so boring, I need a reason to push through

p. 236 “Never again would we fear the grueling work of breaking ourselves down and gluing ourselves back together again. That cycle of building and destroying and rebuilding is not something to overcome.”

Why doesn’t it occur to her to feign sickness while she gets her bearings in each new book? She’s already pretending to know what’s going on. I think that’s what I’d try; easier to look confused and feign memory problems.

Audiobook. Not sure if I’ll finish but listened to the first in the series one year ago

Helpful, real guide. Have to take it back to library but want to finish when I can.

Pausing almost halfway through. Some stories are really real and hard. Might come back later, I now have two great library holds in my hands.

Lex is a great character.

“Want to rent something? On the house.”
“We have a VHS player,” Dove told him.
Lex’s face crumpled like a paper bag.

Maybe thrillers aren’t a genre for me? Not sure. Maybe because I dislike many characters. Some paragraphs DRAG and I’m starting to skip lines to get back to the actual story which still feels much more important than the strange “artistic” thoughts taking up space on various pages. I also feel like the dialogue isn’t natural at times. Also, how does one get a four-year-old to nap at 11:30 in the morning?
