As weird as I remember. Will I make the same mistake as last time and mistake novelty for excellency? Time will tell if it was a mistake at all.

10 years on and I wonder where it will land inside me. Riz Ahmed our paths cross again in literature, and one day soon in the third dimension.

Interesting but poorly written. It’s hard to review someone’s personal experiences, but I can imagine that if the tempo and the self indulgent analysis stays this way then I may become less interested in finishing it…

Maddening. Engaging.

Hudson is to Americans what Tangier once was to Europeans. Freaks with a moral code

Interesting. Snappy writing, stream of consciousness and loose punctuation. Thematically harmonious with the last book I read (reflective autobiography) but this book is not a narrative… It’s a fictional retelling. Lot to munch on here.

oh the way he understands her….

I SCREAM WITH EXCITEMENT!!!!!! how DELICIOUS to get my hands on another beth o’leary novel <33 !!!! :)

Not going where I thought, nor as speedy initially seemed...

Reading children’s books before bed is highkey an amaziinnnggggg decision. Like putting my brain in the path... and the nostalgia????? Oof

Real love… easy, except of course, the circumstances

Awesome chemistry 👍🏽 Reads like a vivid-ass romcom. BUT! I can never take a book seriously when the younger sister calls the older one “sissy”
😩😩

This one always makes me depressed but I read it anyway. First time I read it was before my father passed and I often thought about this during the cancer years. Returning to it again feels like burying myself alive. Hitting too close to home… Will counter this by reading Joan Didion after.

Nooooo I think I might actually find this insufferable :(((((

girl got laid more times in one month than two books combined … u go boo ! embark on that rapid self-growth (that I lowkey am annoyed with narratively but am intrigued by nonetheless) !!!

Our narrator has lost her spark! Her earnestness in “The Idiot” outweighed any accusations of pretentiousness. Selin was a little odd, drenched with dry humour, and a critical (over) thinker. With Batuman’s prose, I felt I could embody her while reading. In comparison, Selin in this novel is so disjointed! I especially hate that the tangents from #1 are now simply namedropping facts (perhaps to sound smart??)

don't wanna finish it because I don't want it to be over...
