This author is SO good at cutting into the story with a brief anecdote from a character's past that just destroys you and makes you care about the character even more. This anecdote about Max's dad and the birds... man it made me tear up!!!!!

Ended up DNFing this one. It wasn't what I thought it would be, and it turned out that I wasn't really feeling what it actually was. If that makes sense. I really enjoy the concepts behind Adam Nevill's books, but I've yet to be able to finish one of them... Perhaps we aren't meant to be :(
