For the Eleif book club.

I tried reading this and lost interest.
The audiobook version is exceptionally affecting.
One of the hardest books I've ever listened to.

It makes me see that so many of my friends are constantly carrying a very heavy weight.

It has been a long time since I've been so excited to read a book XD

The audiobook is very affecting. I’ve tried reading the print version and lost interest. Something about hearing about cases of trauma engages my brain in a very different way. It makes me realize how many people I love have been paralyzed by trauma, unable to even process it with their own rational brain.

The rare memoir that reads like gorgeous literature. Thoughtfully crafted, beautiful, and inspiring. Gave me deeper compassion for all my friends of Chinese and Taiwanese lineage.

One of the most interesting books I have read in my life. It is strange to have spent so much time with a body of work and still feel at a loss for how to describe it. I can’t do it without analogies—there is something to this writing that feels like that space between waking and sleeping. You never quite know what your experience means, or what is actually being shown to you.

Amazing, heartbreaking, astonishing, uncomfortable, and raw.

The best takeaway was to act like a consultant foe your kids homework. An interesting book, though I guess I’ve now read enough of these types that they start to feel similar in content and tone.
