The concept is sound and the facts are plentiful and well documented. Still, it’s a slow, academic read, perhaps 80 pages longer than need be to get the point across.

Fabulous memoir — gritty, detailed, often funny, well-written with lots of Irish cadence. In a league with “Liars Club,” “The Glass Castle, “Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight,” among “The Tender Bar.” These books, among many others, are my favorite reads.

It’s not a dire warning, but rather more like a thorough advisory. In the midst of so many ongoing threats to our Republic we must take those threats seriously.

Second half much better than the first.
