I really like the premise of this book. The character development is good and I like the spin the author has put on the classic Sherlock Holmes story. The thing I am struggling with is the long stretches between pivotal occurrences. In all honesty, they’re fairly boring and make me want to go to sleep. As such, I have had to walk away from this book for now and move on to another.

The book is very good. The Bogart and Bacall movie follows it very closely. Unfortunately, because I’ve seen the film numerous times, I am having a difficult time getting through the book. I have had to set it down for a while.

These women are only known for how they died and the sometimes incorrect assumptions on how they lived. The stories of their lives are heart-wrenching and at times difficult to read. I’ve had to set this book down for a while because of it.
