I have been a genealogist for decades and have read many fictional genealogical mysteries as well. I have never before seen an adoption issue focused entirely on the male parent and to the total exclusion (so far) of the female parent. Baffling, but otherwise good reading.

I am really enjoying the book and the author's wonderful writing. But, I was startled to see in God we trust as the motto on a dollar bill. I checked, and that did not replace "e p l u r I b u s u n um" until 1956, two years after the scene.

I'm about half through this third book. I have been a genealogist over thirty years and have experienced nothing worse than occasional verbal hostility. Why does Jefferson stick with this?

Waddell is a very fine writer, a master of plot development, and he handles the language skillfully and beautifully.

This is beautifully written. The language is smooth and flowing and elegant. I have just finished the first state of Rob J.'s life and am looking forward to continuing.

This is a clever vehicle that conveys the excitement many people experience in discovering their ancestors. These of us who have followed this trail know that unexpected and strange things happen, although not the paranormal. Genealogy is the solving of mysteries. I can only be envious of Abby's fictional encounters with her people. Fun.

I am pleased to see this prequel to the post war series that takes us back to the summer when the war broke out. It gives us a chance to see Ian before his trauma and review the mood in Britain when the war started.

First I've read, not sure I like it much. Seems like a cross between Dan Brown and Janet Evanovich. I usually read a book in a day or two, but have been reading just a chapter at a time. Not compelling. I particularly dislike the lack of respect of most of the men, excluding Phillip, who call her Jenny or Doc. They just can't hide their contempt in spite of her stellar credentials. They have to diminish her.
