M. is starting Undead and Unappreciated (Undead, #3)
This was not something I'd pick out for myself. I legit thought it would be a more morbid kind of deal, but it's not. It's a romance series with cookie cutter types of characters, judging from the summaries in wikipedia. sighs

M. is starting In the Dark
Reads like a script for a movie, writer's trying too hard to hint that this is why they wrote it. I get that there's a variety of narration out there and whatever but saying that one word triggered a detailed, very suspense-thriller film appropriate flashback put me off. Unrealistic is putting it mildly. Not into crime procedural's either.

Read like 120+ pages in one go yesterday...oh my god. The women in this novel are really pitiful. Not in sense that I feel sorry for them but in how they're portrayed: the worst feminine "traits"a re compiled into Rachel, who bemoans being "barren" and not being able to attain her "woman's place" as a mother drove her to alcoholism. The way she speaks, her recounting is plunging into a depression.

"I had to kill Jerry Maddox."
Now it's getting good. No male writer would dare to portray a girl like this.

Not fond of what the author seems to be romanticizing. Really not into the narrator, Bean's, character either. Nor is the narrator's attitude over the validity of being a conservative right-winger. Really not a fan of the whole uncritical depiction of gender role fulfillment. Props to the author for avoiding turning a 12 year old into an unbelievable clueless dope b/c she's young like other authors do, though.

It's gonna be doozy, this one. The author's really going for that agonizingly rational man with an empathy deficit as the underdog we're supposed toe empathize with thing. Not buying it. Not relatable.

Absolutely not a fan of the awkward, nerdy man feels so lucky to have landed a hot woman premise but we'll see how tolerable the story becomes as I read on.

I'm more angry at the protag for doing things she should be aware would have unwanted consequences than anything. In one page she acknowledges the likelihood that her investigation and queries could proves both fruitless and dangerous and the next she has no qualms doing the very things she knows she shouldn't do. why. I wanted to hurl my phone at the wall while reading this book.

I've read the introduction thus far and Shalit's conservative, right wing leanings have become all the more evident. While I don't disagree with the notion that it's problematic to be peddling oversexualized dolls and miniaturized thongs to tweens and kids. Shalit asserts that fishnets, mini skirts and halter tops can only be befitting of a prostitute, and seems to be a proponent of compulsory motherhood.
