Well, this is a Dickensian fever dream of a novel.

Saw that twist coming. Not a bad thing; the sort of twist that was surprising back in the 80s but which is more common these days.

So far not bad.

Pretty good.

Okay, this is darker and creepier than I expected.

Not complaining.

Had to check to see if there was a Pineville in KZN. :)

Well, steaming through this one. Lots of revelations, lots of twists, biggest being that I'd never thought I'd feel true sorrow for Venli, all things considered.

So far it's like CS Lewis' "That Hideous Strength" combined with Douglas Adams' "The Hitchhiker's Guide of the Galaxy".

Not the type of novel I usually read, but it's pretty well written and keeps me engaged.
