I've only finished the introduction, but I'm already supremely disappointed. The football game scene Boyd describes (in which teenagers have phones with them but rarely look at them) is simply fictitious--and seemingly the result of her desire to position herself as the only adult who "gets" teenagers and the way they communicate. Not sure I will be able to make it to the end of this one.

this book is uber weird

This book is fascinating. Seriously cannot wait to read more.

You just don't lie to Jon Krakauer and get away with it.

"Scripture is the ultimate grid by which we read every book. Scripture is perfect, sufficient, and eternal. All other books, to some degree, are imperfect, deficient, and temporary. That means that when we pick books from the bookstore shelves, we read those imperfect books in light of the perfect Book..." (locations 350-71).

Favorite so far is "Blackberries in June"

This is my first Rash reading. Really like his style.

To paraphrase: If you are yapping at your kids to read books and you haven't picked up a book in a year or so, maybe you should check yourself.

I thought this book was going to blow my mind. It has not. I know a lot about clocks now, though, so there's that.

Maybe the most enjoyable book I've ever read. To get to know Steinbeck's personal life like this is incredible. Makes me love him even more.
