I was dubious while reading the first half, because it was a bit too patriotic for me. I’ve always stuck with Caputo, O’Brien when reading about war. But as MacArthur’s true nature became apparent, and a man like Ridgway entered the story, the absurdity of war emerged as it always does in books on combat. Halberstam knows a lot about this period , going to read The Best and the Brightest next.
