I’m really getting into this fantasy story with the crazy talking key and people with unusual powers. I love that the book is so long and that I can escape into its realm probably until Christmas. I hope some serious conspiracies go down!

I bought this when it first came out because the cover was so interesting, but I just didn’t understand satire at the time and couldn’t stomach the first chapters. I thought the author hated women! 30 year later, I’ve just started it and I don’t want to put it down! I already love all the subtle acts of defiance and the fact that the main character has memory of her old life of freedom. Powerful!

I’m really enjoying the twists in this story. I love the flaws in Laura and Judah’s dedication to her. The early incident with the lamp! I’m starting to question her choices though - she’s naive to think that letting on that she’s going straight to the authorities at the next port is going to be so simple. I have a feeling it’s about to get ugly.......

Looking back at 20+ years of reading this series - I am amazed that she can still keep me enthralled with her lengthy novels. It never gets old! This one will keep me company until Season 3 starts and I hope that book 9 is not the last!

I like this story better than The Fiery Cross because it's back to being more about Jaime and Claire. I'm at the halfway point and even though I know my history, I can't really see the plot clearly. Some events seem disjointed, but I'm hopeful that she will amaze me and tie them all together by the end. Brianna is annoying me by trying to be modern - why doesn't she just go home to her plumbing and electricity?

I'm still in the beginning of this book, but I am amazed at Anne Frank. She was a mixture of teenager and maturity beyond the adult perspective. I love how she could read people and think about how they affect her. I can't imagine being such a social, chatty person stuck with a bunch of stuffy adults. The beauty S that in her need to relate, she created her diary for people like us who would care.
